Should the rain continue, the contingency plan for this weekend’s 12th annual Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta is that there is no contingency plan. Rain or shine, the American LeMans Series will race.
"The difference between us and other car racers is that we don’t get rained out," said Flowery Branch resident and Petit LeMans participant Johnny O’Connell. "We just put on our rain tires and go.
"The inclement weather will make racing more difficult and you have to plan accordingly, but we will race no matter the weather."
Events for the Petit LeMans begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday with practice and conclude with the start of the endurance race at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Fans will have access to free driver autograph sessions and chats, tech talk and an open paddock where they can mingle with the cars, drivers and race teams beginning Wednesday.
