A Gainesville man was killed early Wednesday morning after being hit by a car while crossing Dawsonville Highway near Manor Ridge.

A spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol's Gainesville Post identified the man as Michael Patrick Cooley, 33.

The spokesman said Cooley was crossing the road just after 2 a.m. when the vehicle — traveling westbound in the left lane — struck and killed him.

The incident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol and it's not clear if charges will be filed.
