A pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck backing out of a driveway in Oakwood, officials said.

The death of the 56-year-old man will be ruled accidental, Hall County Coroner Marion Merck said.

The accident happened at a home on Atlanta Highway just north of Plainview Road about 5 p.m. Friday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Officials said a woman who knew the man was backing up and did not know he was behind the truck. He died at the scene from his injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating, but has not issued any citations.

The name of the victim was not being released Friday night pending notification of next of kin.
