Pair charged in armed robbery of guest at Gainesville motel

Two people are accused of taking an iPhone and cash from a Gainesville motel guest after entering his room and holding him at gunpoint.

Dalvontae Stephens, 24, of Gainesville, and Jessica Melear, 27, of Flowery Branch, have been charged in the incident that took place Sunday, May 20, at Motel 6 at 1585 Monroe Drive, Gainesville Police said in a press release Monday, May 21.

After the holdup, the suspects left the scene on foot, police said.

Police were called to the scene about 1:30 a.m. The hotel is off Athens Highway/U.S. 129 just east of Interstate 985.

Officers “developed information that led them to the suspects at Motel 6,” police said in a press release.

The victim’s iPhone and a gun were recovered by officers. The amount of cash taken was not disclosed by police.

No injuries were reported, Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said, adding that it’s not yet known if the suspects knew the victim.

Stephens and Melear, who were arrested without incident, have been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, criminal use of a firearm with altered ID, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Both are being held in the Hall County Jail.
