Gainesville resident Edward P. Rigel Sr. was honored at the 128th Annual Congress of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution by being presented with the Minuteman award.

The award, established in 1951, is presented to those who have made distinguished and exceptional contributions of service to the National Society. This is the highest award of the National Society and the honored compatriot may receive it only once.

Rigel has served the Sons of the American Revolution as president of Gainesville’s Lyman Hall Chapter, commander of the Georgia state Color Guard and as state president.
