Lanier Technical College recently received recognition from a national accrediting organization.
The college’s air conditioning technology program, offered at its Oakwood campus, has been awarded a six-year accreditation by HVAC Excellence.
The organization is dedicated to improving the competency of the HVAC technical work force.
According to reports from the college, accreditation validates that the program is "preparing students for jobs in the HVAC and refrigeration industry and verifies that the program has the needed resources and administrative support to accomplish their goals."
The U.S. Department of Labor predicts the HVAC industry will be one of the fastest growing occupations during the next decade.
In addition, it is estimated that 40 percent of the current HVAC work force will retire in the next decade, with job opportunities in the field growing by 26 percent during that time.
Graduates from accredited programs, such as Lanier Tech’s, have more opportunities for advanced positions and higher starting salaries.
To receive the accreditation, Lanier Tech staff completed a self-study evaluation of the Air Conditioning Technology program, followed by an on-site visit by HVAC Excellence.
The visiting team reviewed curriculum, faculty, student facilities, placement services, financial aid, training, facilities, equipment and safety.
