The opening of new lanes on Lanier Islands Parkway/Ga. 347 in South Hall, including a roundabout at Big Creek Road, will be delayed.

The Georgia Department of Transportation had expected the traffic shift to take place Monday, July 15, but said in a news release Monday morning the shift had been postponed to a later date.

“Contractors are in the process of making some field adjustments in order to install the rest of the guardrail,” DOT district spokeswoman Katie Strickland said in an email.

The DOT is widening Ga. 347 between McEver Road and Lanier Islands resort. The $10.4 million project has a completion date of Oct. 31.

Work began in late summer 2017 to widen the road from two to three lanes, adding a center turn lane along a 2.4-mile stretch, a 10-foot multi-use path on one side of the road and a 5-foot sidewalk on the other.
