One person has died as a result of injuries suffered Friday evening in an accident on Athens Highway east of Gainesville.

Cpl. Kevin Holbrook confirmed Saturday that the female driver of one vehicle died late Friday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Holbrook said the wreck occurred at Wilson Drive when the woman driving the passenger vehicle “possibly pulled in front of” an SUV heading north on Athens Highway. The driver and a child in the SUV also were taken to the medical center with injuries.

Northbound lanes on Athens Highway were shut down for a time.
