The condition of a 50-year-old man whose pickup truck collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle on Thompson Mill Road Wednesday night was not immediately available Thursday.

The Georgia State Patrol did not release the name of the driver, who was flown by helicopter to Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition Wednesday night.

The wreck occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Mill Road and Corners Drive, when the northbound 1996 Chevrolet pickup the man was driving left the east shoulder, crossed back over the road and struck a 2000 Lincoln Navigator in the southbound lane.

The 16-year-old female driver of the Navigator and a 15-year-old male passenger were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with less severe injuries.

The state patrol was withholding the name of the driver of the pickup pending notification of next of kin if he died. Hall County Coroner Marion Merck said he was unaware of any fatal wrecks occurring in the county this week.
