Oakwood council to consider CVB contract

Oakwood City Council plans to reaffirm tonight its partnership with the Lake Lanier Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“We’re already working with the CVB, but it was based on an old arrangement from 10 years ago,” City Manager Stan Brown said.
“What we’re going to do is kind of solidify the relationship.”

Stacey B. Dickson, CVB president, is scheduled to speak to the council.

The council’s action would follow similar moves taken by Flowery Branch and Lake Lanier Islands in which the CVB receives hotel-motel taxes in exchange for promotion of South Hall.

The Gainesville City Council voted in September to withdraw funding from the CVB and use the money to market city tourism attractions on its own.

In other business, council members will consider a request for a beer consumption license at Oven House Pizza, 3904 Winder Highway.

They also will hear an update from Brown on city projects and 2010 goals.

The council’s meeting is set for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 4035 Walnut Circle.
