Oakwood City Council is expected to take actions tonight toward setting its general election on Nov. 3.

The council is scheduled to take a final vote on an ordinance concerning the election, as well as a resolution fixing qualifying fees.

Qualifying for Oakwood is Aug. 31-Sept. 2. Longtime Mayor Lamar Scroggs and councilmen Ron McFarland and Sam Evans are up for re-election.

The business meeting, the first attended by City Manager Stan Brown since returning from his since six-month military deployment to Iraq, is set for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 4035 Walnut Circle.

In other business, the council is expected to hear from accounting firm Hawkins & McNair on the results of the city’s 2008 audit.

The city’s budget year runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.

Also, the expected to consider adding on to an agreement with Georgia Mountains Regional Commission for services related to its transportation enhancement project.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded the city of Oakwood $100,000 for phase two of its downtown sidewalk improvement program.

Outside of its monthly meeting, the council is expected to meet at 6 p.m. on whether to revoke the alcohol license of La Parrilla Mexican restaurant, which is in the Robson Crossing Shopping Center off Atlanta and Winder highways.

The matter stems from a Cinco de Mayo celebration in which alcohol was served outside the restaurant.

A city notice alleges that La Parrilla violated city law governing the distribution and sale of distilled spirits.

Jorge Barreto, the restaurant’s general manager, has said the incident was an “innocent mistake” and that business officials plan to “give our big apologies to the city.”
