The cost of the nursing contract to care for inmates of the Hall County Jail is increasing 5 percent this year, taking it to an estimated $800,000.

The contract with Correctional Nursing Services includes a registered nurse supervisor ($49.88 an hour), licensed professional nurses ($30.58 an hour or $32.18 on weekends) and clerks ($20.52 an hour) to serve approximately 1,100 inmates.

Members of the Hall County Board of Commissioners are expected to sign off on the contract this week. Commissioners met in a work session on Monday, April 9, and placed the contract on the consent calendar, which is routinely approved as a whole without in-depth discussion at the start of the meeting, of the Thursday, April 12, voting meeting.

The contract would be effective for fiscal year 2019, which begins July 1. Commissioners are expected to extend the contract of Dr. Linwood Zoller, who does work for the jail, at the same meeting.

Zoller’s contract is unchanged and would cost the county $168,246 in 2019.
