DAWSON COUNTY

Dawsonville City Council approves annexations

The Dawsonville City Council on Monday night approved requests to annex three parcels of county land into the city. The properties, which equal nearly 6.5 acres, are located on Elliott Village, Perimeter Road and Duck Thurmond Road. Certified public accountant Bryan St. Pierre of Alexander, Almand and Bangs also reviewed the city's fiscal 2010-2011 financial statement during the meeting.

HABERSHAM COUNTY

Mount Airy hears about water and sewer concerns

Mount Airy Town Council on Monday heard from a resident who asked that a water meter be moved 2 feet off his property. Also, Lynne Dockery, vice chairman of Habersham County's water and sewer department spoke; she is seeking information about water connectivity to all of Habersham's cities.

Clarkesville City Council also met Monday night.

JACKSON COUNTY

Hoschton council announces dates for fall events

Hoschton City Council is ready for a fall season full of family events.

Officials Monday announced that National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention event, will be held Oct. 20. The event is designed to bring together residents, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials to raise awareness about crime and drug prevention. Residents are encouraged to turn on their outside lights, sit on the front porch, take walks or golf cart rides through their neighborhood or take a flashlight walk at dusk. There are no formal activities planned.

Donations also are being sought for the second annual Veterans Appreciation Day, which will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 in the city square. A parade, live music, free food and drinks, and a folded flag ceremony will be among the activities. For more information or to offer aid, contact Hoschton City Hall at 706-654-3034.
