It’s Frosty time in Oakwood.

A new Wendy’s restaurant is set to open Friday at 3825 Mundy Mill Road in front of Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart in Oakwood and across from the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus.

The eatery replaces the Wendy’s at 3652 Wallis Road and marks a definite upgrade in interior and exterior features.

The new restaurant features large windows, allowing more light inside the restaurant. The interior features different height tables, booths, a fireplace, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions and cushioned chairs.

The environment “is very different from what Wendy’s customers are familiar with, but which we believe they will really like,” said Jackson Turner, president of Clemson, S.C.-based First Sun Management Corp., Wendy’s local franchisee.

The new restaurant will represent “everything that the millennial generation and others will want,” said Joe Turner, First Sun Management’s CEO.

He hopes to capture the heavy traffic that flows through the area. Mundy Mill Road, running between McEver Road and Interstate 985, is one of Hall County’s busiest arteries.

“And it’s right across the street from 9,000 college students,” Joe Turner said. “It’s a great location. It really is.”

A grand opening ceremony is set for 9:30 a.m. at the 3,000-square-foot restaurant, which has about 60 employees.

The company, which also operates in Gainesville, opened the Wallis Road location 20-plus years ago, Joe Turner has said.
