New lanes opening on Dawsonville Highway may cause delays

Two new lanes on Dawsonville Highway are set to open today, according to an official from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The section from Sidney Drive to Manor Ridge Drive will open two lanes of traffic in each direction, weather permitting, said DOT spokeswoman Teri Pope.

The new thoroughfare will include the activation of a traffic light at the intersection of Dawsonville Highway, Lake Ranch Drive and Lyncliff Drive.

"Crews will be working (today) to open up the new lanes, so there will likely be delays during the day," Pope said, adding that the new lanes should be open in time for the afternoon commute. The 3.23-mile project has cost $29.5 million. A westbound section between Sidney Drive and the Jerry Jackson bridge will not open today.
