The city of Gainesville is no stranger to doughnut shops, but Andy Nuon hopes to bring something new with his shop Danny’s Donuts.

Nuon hopes to open the shop in a few weeks at 417 Main St. SW in Gainesville, just behind the CVS Pharmacy on Jesse Jewell Parkway.

“This is our first one in Gainesville,” Nuon said. “We have others with different names in Georgia, but it’s the same family.”

Nuon is still preparing the shop but has the menu set primarily with breakfast pastries, including apple fritters, cinnamon rolls and a long list of doughnuts.

“We will have doughnuts, breakfast burritos, breakfast bagels — like ham and cheese — muffins, boba smoothies, ice blend coffee,” Nuon said. “We’ll have all kinds of things.”

Boba smoothies or “bubble teas” are a popular fruit drink with either round, fruit jellies or tapioca balls.

Nuon said he hopes to open the first week of August, but it could be sooner.

“It depends on inspections,” he said. “The hard part is the health inspection, but once we pass, everything else is going to be easy.”

Nuon and his family first ran a doughnut shop in California, and he did extensive research before making the move to Georgia.

“I did two years of research with my uncle going all over Georgia,” he said. “Gainesville, yes, has doughnut shops like Dunkin’ Donuts, but family-owned? There is none. So we’re going to put the first one here.”
