Gainesville City Council voted Tuesday to allow Dunkin’ Donuts to move into the old Yonah Burger location on Thompson Bridge Road across from the shopping center anchored by Publix.
Council approved a special use permit needed for the restaurant’s drive-thru.
The existing 2,500-square-foot building will be remodeled to accommodate Dunkin’ Donuts’ brand, but no demolition or major structural changes are expected.
According to city staff reports, minimal food preparation will take place on-site, and the restaurant does not require vents or exhaust fans.
In other business, City Council voted Tuesday to scrap its ordinance regulating taxis in its entirety after state lawmakers this year removed local oversight of the industry.
The state Department of Public Safety is now responsible for licensing and permitting taxi drivers.
