Authorities are searching for a 33-year-old man suspected of murder in the Friday night shooting death of a Gainesville man.
Darvis Donquan Bledson, otherwise known as “Tookie,” “is believed to be in the Atlanta metro area and should be considered armed and dangerous,” Gainesville Police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said in a Sunday press release. “Please call 911 immediately if you encounter him or know his whereabouts.”
Bledson is described as a 5-foot-5 black man, weighing about 175 pounds and having tattoos, including several on his chest and left forearm. One tattoo also says “Michelle” on his neck.
The investigation began soon after authorities received several 911 calls and as a Gainesville officer was flagged down just before 11 p.m. at the 900 block of Athens Street. Holbrook said the shooting took place outside a building that once housed a club called Sparkles and that the building is now used for private events.
Officers found Terry Jerome Maddox, 30, who had been shot multiple times. Unresponsive, Maddox was pronounced dead at the scene.
A large group of people was at the scene when officers arrived, Holbrook said.
“Within hours of the shooting, investigators named Bledson as a suspect,” he said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
