It is before 7:30 a.m. as Mount Vernon Exploratory School second-grade students closely watch the screen. It is before 7:30 p.m. in China, where students at Anding Primary School in Rugao in the Jiangsu province talk animatedly in their language. The two schools — separated by more than 7,500 miles — are Skyping, and creating, in the worlds of Mount Vernon’s principal “the 21st century version of pen pals.”
