An elderly woman from Tennessee died from injuries sustained in a head-on car wreck on Limestone Parkway on Friday, June 21.

The collision occurred about 4:30 p.m. when Shirley Ellison, 83, of Puryear, Tenn., was traveling north on Limestone Parkway in a 2009 Nissan Rogue.

Laura Webber, 28, of Gainesville, was traveling in the opposite direction in a 2014 Toyota Corolla. Webber stopped in the left turn lane waiting to merge onto Huntington Drive (the rear entrance to the New Holland Kroger shopping center).

“For unknown reasons, the Nissan Rogue failed to stay in its lane, crossed the median and struck the Toyota Corolla head on,” according to a Georgia State Patrol press release.

Both drivers were transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, and all lanes of Limestone Parkway were blocked for about 30 minutes.

Ellison died from her injuries, according to GSP.

Webber sustained non-life threatening injuries.

“The deceased driver is suspected at fault and there will be no charges,” according to GSP.
