The Hall County Sheriff's Office has determined Monday's South Hall shooting that resulted in a man's abdomen injuries was accidental.

Jerrod Turner, 19, was trying to load a small caliber handgun when the weapon fired, said sheriff's office spokesman Col. Jeff Strickland on Thursday.

"Initially, due to the victim's surgery, investigators were unable to interview (him)," Strickland said. "Investigators have now spoken with the victim and confirmed that the shooting was accidently self-inflicted."

The incident took place just after 8 a.m. in the 5700 block of Hickory Wood Lane in the Countryside Mobile Home Park, which is off Lanier Islands Parkway at Interstate 985.

Turner's girlfriend, who was in the home at the time of the shooting, called 911 and reported the incident, Strickland has said.

Turner was flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta after the incident. He was in stable condition Thursday.

The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
