An 84-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease was found safe 86 miles from Gainesville after being reported missing by his wife Thursday morning.

Nemore Savage ran out of gas in Greensboro. He asked passing motorists for help, and a person checked his name online and discovered he was missing, Gainesville police Lt. Brian Kelly said.

Savage was last seen by his wife at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, leaving his Princeton Court home in a silver Toyota sport utility vehicle.

A "Mattie’s Alert" was issued through the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, alerting motorists via electronic road signs that Savage was missing.

Savage apparently took U.S. 129 south toward Athens and then Ga. 441 before ending up in Greensboro, police said. He was found at about 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

Savage was taken to a local hospital to be checked but seemed to be unharmed, Kelly said.
