Ministry seeks help with backpacks to aid area homeless

A New Walk church in Gainesville is seeking backpacks to distribute to homeless people in the area.

The church’s Homeless in Gainesville, Ga., ministry has a goal of providing 200 gender-neutral filled backpacks. Backpacks should contain Christian reading material, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor and shaving cream, deodorant, soap, shampoo, lotion, first aid kit, sewing kit, hand and feet warmers, socks, gloves, flashlight and batteries, lighter, tea light candles, poptop foods, crackers, candy and gum.

Those who don’t have time to shop may give through the donate tab on the church’s Facebook page or mail checks to A New Walk/Homeless in Gainesville, Ga., P.O. Box 5967, Gainesville, GA 30504. All donations and backpacks must be in by Dec. 20.

Backpacks will be distributed, and a Christmas dinner will be served, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 25 at A New Walk, 673 Bradford St.
