Memorial Day holiday to be hot; storms possible

Our area could see some rain and thunderstorms this Memorial Day weekend, but don’t let it change your plans. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City forecasts a slight chance of storms in the afternoon, 20 percent for today and Sunday and 30 percent on Memorial Day.“We have a little tropical low that is starting to form off the Georgia-Florida coast and is forecasted to move into Southern Georgia,” National Weather Service Forecaster Alex Gibbs said.Anyone who plans on going to South Georgia this weekend will probably see some stormy weather. Gibbs said the current model forecasts the Hall County area with only a slight chance of receiving rain or storms from the tropical low. Any storms we may get will stay below the severe level.“Looking at the National Hurricane Center, they are looking at an 80 percent chance of it forming a tropical depression or cyclone,” Gibbs said.As we go into the weekend and forecasters receive updated models of the tropical low, the forecast could change and lead to higher chances of rain or storms. We will also see some warm temperatures this weekend.
