Man sentenced to serve 10 years in prison for knife attack

A Gainesville man was sentenced Tuesday to serve 10 years in prison in connection with an October 2012 knife attack. Derek Alan Norton, 38, will serve 10 years in prison with 10 years of probation to follow in relation to an Oct. 25, 2012, attack on Heather Richardson, according to Northeastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Lee Darragh. Judge Kathlene Gosselin handed down a 20-year sentence for attempted murder, five consecutive years of probation for possession of a knife in the commission of a crime and 12 months to serve for third-degree child cruelty.
