A garbage truck driver was injured and transported to the hospital Tuesday morning after his truck rolled onto its side as he turned right onto Queen City Parkway from Aviation Boulevard, according to Sgt. Anthony Coleman of the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver was seriously injured in the 9 a.m. incident, which involved no other vehicles, according to Keith Smith, Gainesville Fire Department spokesman.

The truck “turned over and slid off of the road,” Smith said.

Coleman said the load in the Advanced Disposal truck shifted and “speed was not a contributing factor.” He said that can be common with something like a liquid as cargo.

Motor Carrier Compliance is doing a more in-depth investigation on the truck, Coleman said.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Gainesville campus had no information Tuesday afternoon on the driver, identified by Coleman as Marvin Jarrett, 35, of Dawsonville.

Lanes were shut down for more than two hours at Queen City coming into Gainesville.

Coleman said the only damage other than the truck was to a road sign, which was “very fortunate for that location.”
