A 53-year-old man is now in stable condition following a serious wreck between a tractor trailer and a passenger car on Ga. 53 near the Hall County-Jackson County line Thursday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Daniel Moye of Watkinsville was trapped in his Toyota Prius after the driver of a tractor trailer failed to yield when turning left into a private drive, causing a head-on collision.

According to the state patrol, Moye was traveling east on Ga. 53 when a westbound tractor trailer pulled in front of him.

To avoid the impact, Moye swerved his Prius into the right-turn lane, but the tractor trailer hit the Prius head-on, according to a GSP operator.

The driver of the tractor trailer, 61-year-old Carl Manning of West Virginia, was treated for minor injuries at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and has been released from the hospital.

Moye was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. His status had been upgraded as of Friday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The wreck shut down the two-lane road for about three hours. Ga. 53 was reopened at about 8:30 p.m.
