A 49-year-old man convicted in Hall County of enticing a child for indecent purposes has received a 15-year sentence. Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh confirmed that Weyman Edward Wheeler was sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years probation on Monday. The conviction is punishable from anywhere between 10 to 30 years.According to Darragh, the most significant conditions of Wheeler’s probation include “that he have no contact with the victim and that he be on the sex offender registry.”Wheeler was arrested in May 2011 after being accused of having sex in a consensual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.Dan Summer, Wheeler’s attorney, said the defense was “grateful on the mercy of his charge” but that they would seek to shorten the length of the sentence based on a provision that would allow a sentence under 10 years.“We will raise this issue as well as other issues with errors we feel were made on the appeal,” Summer said.Last month, a Hall County jury found Wheeler not guilty of aggravated child molestation, and the jury was hung on the charges of child molestation and statutory rape.“The facts of this case were such that the sentence received was fully deserved by this defendant,” Darragh said.
