A Gainesville man has been charged with first-degree cruelty to children in connection with a shaken baby case, authorities said Thursday.
Christian Cory Montalvo, 20, was arrested Wednesday on the felony charge for causing injuries to his 2-month-old son, Hall County Sheriff’s Col. Jeff Strickland said.
The child, who was injured March 9, has been released from a hospital and is in the care of his mother, Strickland said. It is not known whether the child sustained permanent injuries, Strickland said.
Montalvo was alone with his infant son in the Meadow Lane home he shared with the child’s mother when an ambulance was called for the child, Strickland said. The baby was later transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where an examination determined that the injuries were consistent with the child having been shaken, Strickland said.
Citing federal medical privacy laws, officials released no other information about the injuries to the child, whose name was not disclosed.
Montalvo remains in the Hall County jail pending a court hearing, Strickland said.
