An 18-year-old Hall County man was arrested Tuesday after authorities say he made threats and fired a gun into the air in front of a 2-year-old.

Derick Cruz Trejo was charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the third degree and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The incident occurred Dec. 6 in the 2800 block of Gillsville Highway in Gainesville.

Lt. Scott Ware with the Hall County Sheriff's Office Gang Task Force said Trejo was in possession of a .357 handgun when he made verbal threats against two adults and a child.

"It was something to the effect he would shoot them or he would kill them," Ware said.

Trejo was first arrested the day of the incident on obstruction charges but was arrested again Tuesday on additional charges.

He remains in the Hall County Jail.
