A Hall County man is accused of sexually abusing four children under the age of 15, and his wife was also charged with not reporting it to law enforcement, according to authorities.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators obtained warrants May 28 for Scott Shelby, 44, for aggravated child molestation, child molestation and first-degree child cruelty.
Lt. Scott Ware said the warrants stem from an investigation “after it was learned that he had sexually abused four children who ranged in age from 10-15 years old.”
Shelby is currently being held at the White County Detention Jail on charges of false imprisonment, aggravated assault and other alleged offenses.
The day after investigators sought warrants for Scott Shelby, deputies arrested his wife Rebecca Shelby, 38, on four counts of second-degree child cruelty.
Ware said Rebecca Shelby allegedly “failed to report physical, mental and sexual abuse” of the four children with whom she and her husband were acquainted.
Ware said the alleged abuse happened between January 2017 and March 2018. A relative of the children contacted the Division of Family and Children Services in February, who in turn notified the sheriff’s office.
“Warrants from Hall County remain open and active and serve as a hold if (Scott Shelby) were to be released from custody in White County,” Ware said.
The case is still under investigation, and authorities did not release any further information.
No attorney information was listed for Rebecca Shelby on Friday, May 31, with Hall County Magistrate Court officials.
