Main Street in front of the downtown Gainesville parking deck will be closed this week while the road is repaved.
Paving should be done by April 5 but could go until April 12 due to weather, city spokeswoman Nikki Perry said in an email. The paving is part of a larger downtown street project, which is set to be done in June and also includes sidewalk installations and some curb and gutter work.
The city is saving historic bricks found during the project and hopes to use them in future downtown streetscaping projects, Perry said.
The parking deck entrance facing the square will stay open. The deck was recently renovated to add two new floors and was closed in September for construction. The first three floors opened in November, and all six floors have been open since February. While the stairwells are open, elevators are still closed.
