LULA — A man was taken into custody early Thursday afternoon and charged with shooting his nephew in the leg, Hall County sheriff’s Col. Jeff Strickland said.

Larry D. McDougald, 61, shot his 20-year-old nephew Gavin Passmore with a small-caliber handgun during an argument, according to officials.

The incident, which was reported at 11:54 a.m., occurred at 5229 Harris Road in Lula, officials said.

Strickland described the incident as a domestic dispute, and said that McDougald could have wanted Passmore to leave his house.

Passmore was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and was treated for a gunshot wound in his leg. His wounds were not life-threatening, Strickland said.

McDougald was charged with aggravated assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was booked into the Hall County Detention Center and is currently being held without bond. The incident remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
