Love Light Tree Lighting Celebration set for today

Gainesville will welcome the holiday season with the annual Love Light Tree Lighting Celebration at 7 p.m. today.

Saturday the lights were being strung on the tree that stands ready for the 35th annual celebration, which will be held in the Auxiliary Love Light Garden, outside of the North Patient Tower of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Every year The Medical Center Auxiliary puts on the event as a celebration of the Love Light donations that support the Hospice of NGMC. All of the donations made throughout the year benefit Hospice of NGMC, which aids in providing in-home nursing care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

“We are blessed to have the services of Hospice of NGMC available in our community,” said Mary Nash, a chairwoman of the 2014 Love Light celebration, “allowing terminally ill patients to remain in their homes, with their families and loved ones.”

Nash serves along with her husband, Charlie Nash, who is also a chairman of the celebration.

Love Light donations range from $10 to $500 or more, each level earning a different gift to be added to the tree. For a $10 donation, a light is placed on the tree, donations of $100 or more receive a star gift, and donations of $500 or more receive an angel gift that is added the tree. Donations can be made in honor or in memory of someone, and a card is sent to notify that person or the family of the gift. Donations can be made year-round.

“The funds raised through Love Light donations have a major impact on the services provided to Hospice patients and their family members throughout Northeast Georgia, and many of the needs that are met by Love Light donations would not happen without these gifts.” Nash said.
