State Sen. Butch Miller has landed spots on five Senate committees, it was announced today. The Gainesville Republican was elected last year to the seat formerly held by Lee Hawkins.

The state Senate Committee on Assignments released its list of committee chairmen and assignments Wednesday, and Sen. Butch Miller landed five spots.

The first-year Gainesville senator will chair the State and Local Governmental Operations committee, become an ex-officio member of the Natural Resource and Environment committee, serve as secretary of the Economic Development committee and as a member of the Transportation and Agriculture and Consumer Affairs committees.

"I'm relieved and pleased that I remained on my previous committees," Miller said. "It looks like my attendance at the summer and fall meetings around the state paid off in keeping those."

Transportation and economic development are essential in solving the state's economic climate, and natural resources are an important part of Hall County, Miller noted.

"I'm going to meet the administrative assistant of the Local Governmental Operations committee now," Miller said after the State of the State address. "I'm ready to hit the ground running, and we're going to meet next week."
