A 24-year-old Gainesville man recently won $1 million in the Georgia Lottery.

Dustin Jarrard, a poultry operations manager, bought the $100 Million Cash Blast instant game ticket at Express Food Store, 1811 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Gainesville.

He told lottery officials it was the surprise of his life.

“We stayed up all night. We were really happy,” he said in a news release.

Jarrard and his wife, Amanda, declined to be interviewed or photographed. They have children ages 5 and 1.

The couple said in the news release they planned to use the money for “a good vacation.”

Jarrard claimed the prize Thursday and chose to take a lump sum that amounted to $707,000 or $487,830 after taxes, said Kimberly M. Sparks, the lottery’s media relations specialist.

The odds of him winning $1 million on the $10 ticket was a 1 in 2.4 million chance, Starks said.

Although Express Food Store doesn’t get any retailer reward, Starks said, it will be known as a lucky store.

“The publicity they receive will be invaluable,” she said.
