Reaction to the grand jury decision this week not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown was immediate and widespread — and left opinions at odds. In cities and states many miles from Ferguson, Mo. — the St. Louis suburb where Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot multiple times by Wilson, a white officer in a predominantly African-American community, in August after a violent altercation — protesters have emerged on urban streets, and the relationship between local police and the residents they serve has come under stricter scrutiny.
