The Caskey family loves to have family game night.

Perhaps it is their enthusiasm for board games or maybe the skills acquired through so many rounds of Trivial Pursuit that earned them a spot on the TV game show “Family Feud.”

“We play games every week, but it is much more fun when you do it on TV,” Norma Caskey said.

The Caskey family of Gainesville will appear on “Family Feud” at noon Wednesday. The five family members who make up the Caskey team are Norma Caskey, Tina Vliet, Cherlyn Caskey, Karen Ketchum and Jon Caskey.

Norma Caskey’s sister-in-law, Cherlyn, heard the game show was holding auditions in Atlanta and knew her family would be perfect for the show.

Cherlyn sent the show photos and descriptions of her family members. Within a few days the show called her to set up an audition.

The Caskeys showed up to their audition at the Atlanta Civic Center wearing matching Hawaiian print shirts.

“We stood out with these hideous shirts,” Norma Caskey said.

The Caskeys took their place among the other families in the room and listened to the rules of the game. The producers explained to the families that they wanted more than just correct answers. They want contestants who can give the right answer while being interesting and energetic.

“When our turn came up we were all that and plus,” Norma Caskey said.

Norma’s sister, Karen, was so energetic during the audition she now has to have surgery.

“My sister was so excited she blew out her knee,” Norma Caskey said.

The auditions consist of two families playing the game twice so that both families can win.

“We stole it. We won both rounds,” Norma Caskey said, laughing.

The Caskey family was quickly selected to be on the show.

“They really wanted us,” Norma Caskey said.

She said the crew of the show treated her and her family like celebrities. She recommends other families try out for the show.

Her advice to other families is to “just think like you’re on fire. I think that’s the secret.”

“Family Feud” is hosted by Atlanta comic, Steve Harvey. Norma Caskey said Harvey kept the audience laughing during the commercial breaks with a comedy routine.

“It’s really cool. He is hilarious,” she said.

They will play against the Hackney family from Austell Thursday at noon on Peachtree TV. They will compete to win $100,000 and a new car.
