Members of the Gainesville Lions Club recently dedicated their Legacy Project commemorating the centennial of Lions Clubs International.

The local club partnered with the Longstreet Society to plan and develop a portion of the Longstreet-Piedmont Heritage Landscape project as The Lions Garden at Piedmont Hotel. The funding of this project provided for purchase and installation of an engraved granite bench, a commemorative marker and to help purchase plants that were native to the area in 1875.

“The landscape project is being developed in keeping with the mission of the Longstreet Society to honor the memory of Lt. Gen. James Longstreet and his pursuit of peace and brotherhood throughout the world,” according to a press release.
