Interstate 985’s Exit 22 in Gainesville is set for a makeover, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The interchange reconstruction project will include the construction of dual left turn lanes from U.S. 129 to the northbound I-985 entrance ramp. The exit ramp from I-985 south to U.S. 129 will also get dual left turn lanes headed into Gainesville. A new traffic signal will be installed at the ramps to and from I-985 south.
"Grading is already under way on the entrance ramp from (U.S. 129) to I-985 north and lane closures will begin today if weather permits," said DOT spokeswoman Terri Pope. "On (U.S. 129) westbound, the left turn lane onto I-985 north will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as crews install pipe."
Also today, during the same time, U.S. 129 eastbound’s inside or left lane will be closed at the area of the north entrance ramp to I-985, Pope said. "Delays are expected along U.S. 129 today as this work occurs, so please avoid the area if you can."
