By the time “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek read the Final Jeopardy question, Lakeview Academy alumnus Dhruv Gaur had already secured a place in the semifinals of the show’s college tournament.

Gaur, a Gainesville man now attending Brown University, handily won in his first appearance on the show. He had $22,800 heading into the final question regarding “U.S. Cabinet Departments,” a total more than double his closest competitor.

The final question: This Cabinet department traces its roots back to the Manhattan Project and efforts to develop the atomic bomb.

Gaur and the two other contestants answered correctly with “What is the Department of Energy?” He added $512 for a result of $23,312.

The tournament runs through April 20 and has a grand prize of $100,000.
