The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed Lower Overlook Park to the public for the next two weeks.
The day-use park, located near Buford Dam, has suffered severe shoreline erosion due to wave action by boats. Construction crews are currently depositing rip-rap along the shore to prevent further damage.
Visitors will still be able to use the Laurel Ridge Trail, which passes through the park. But corps spokesman Michael Lapina said hikers will need to leave their cars at Powerhouse Park.
Construction is expected to be completed by about May 8. For information, call 770-945-9531.
