The scheduled celebration for a new plant at the current King’s Hawaiian Bakery Southeast in Flowery Branch was canceled due to the timing of a bird flu outbreak that has now affected more than 33 million turkeys, chickens and ducks in at least a dozen states. A company spokesman stressed Thursday that the food at King’s Hawaiian was not affected or linked with the disease in any way, other than that there is a shortage of eggs — an ingredient used in some of its products — and executives needed to cancel the celebration because the matter is “tying things up … it needs really close attention.” “There’s no health issue at all with our products,” said John Linehan, vice president of strategy and business development with King’s Hawaiian.
