A 16-year-old fled on foot after allegedly stabbing his stepfather Tuesday on East Ridge Road, authorities said Wednesday.

The juvenile and stepfather Johnny Morris, 37, of Gainesville were arguing before the stepson allegedly stabbed Morris in the abdomen, authorities said.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to the scene in the 1100 block of East Ridge Road.

Dogs in the K-9 unit searched for the juvenile after he fled, but the efforts were unsuccessful.

Morris was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and was in stable condition earlier Wednesday. Hospital officials were unable to provide further information concerning his condition Wednesday evening.

The juvenile turned himself in to authorities around 1 a.m. Wednesday, facing a charge of aggravated assault. The 16-year-old is being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville.
