When Janet Melton walks into St. Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville, she stops by the door, dips her fingertips into a small silver bowl and traces a cross over her body. Melton is comforted by the sight of a small red candle at the altar. The burning candle tells her that Jesus is physically present in the room; the tabernacle on the altar contains the bread and wine that are the body and blood of Christ.
