The planned installation of the pedestrian bridge over U.S. 441 in front of Piedmont College in Demorest has been rescheduled for Thursday.

A problem at the bridge fabricator’s facility required one of the three bridge spans to be repainted.

The installation had been planned for July 31.

A portion of the highway from Georgia Street to the Demorest-Mount Airy Highway will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.

All vehicle transportation will be rerouted during the closing, and signs are posted along U.S. 441 advising motorists.

During the installation, two cranes will lift three custom-fabricated spans and place them on the concrete support columns.

Constructed in three sections of 11, 67 and 87 feet, the sections will be welded into a continuous span.
