From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, families of all sizes are invited to a celebration at Interactive Neighborhood for Kids.
The museum’s first "Honoring Families Celebration" is part of National Family Week, organized by the Alliance for Children and Families.
During the celebration, which takes place the week of Thanksgiving, people nationwide will celebrate families and communities.
"We’re just so blessed to live in a community with so many rich resources to support the families that live in Hall County and North Georgia," INK curator Chrissy Derrer said.
The idea to have a family celebration was born when a local person approached the INK staff and said it would be a good way to participate in National Family Week.
INK received $3,000 from Target, which enabled the organization to offer $1 admission for the day, with a $5 maximum per family.
Several local organizations will be at INK on Sunday to offer information about the services they offer.
"Part of National Family Week is inviting local nonprofits in the community whose mission is to serve parents, children and grandparents," Derrer said.
There will be giveaways, face painting and live music broadcast by radio station WFSH 104.7 FM.
Families can get creative by making hats with paint and giant coffee filters, or customized picture frames.
"We’ll take a picture of every family with goofy hats on, and next week they can come pick up their pictures to put into the frames so they can commemorate the event," Derrer said.
The Hall County Library System will sign up people for library cards.
State Rep. Doug Collins will read a Dr. Seuss book to the audience and give awards to community groups that best exemplify family values.
Derrer said having the organizations present on Sunday will provide information and resources for families that need help.
"It’s so overwhelming when you find yourself at a place where you just need a helping hand and don’t know where to turn," Derrer said. "We don’t want those resources to be hidden."
