Motorists along Riverside Drive in Gainesville may notice new construction taking place at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

In October, city officials approve a $279,000 contract to upgrade the facility with new filtering technology, one of the biggest single improvements to the plant since it was built in 1993.

Officials said construction should be completed in January 2018.
