The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a construction information session on the Interstate 85 Express Lane Project from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Gwinnett Civic Center in room 6ABC.
Representatives from the Georgia DOT, State Road and Tollway and The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority will give an update on construction schedules, tolling and transit enhancements.
The project includes installation of 16 miles of fiber and signage along I-85 between Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb County and Old Peachtree Road in Gwinnett County and along Ga. 316 between I-85 and Riverside Parkway in Gwinnett County.
The contract completion date is July 31.
Weather permitting, lane closures are projected to begin in mid-September.
When completed, transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside HOT lane for free, while single- and double-occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
