Stories from veterans and patriotic music will fill local schools Friday in celebration of Veterans Day.
Throughout Hall County’s high schools veterans will be handing out pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution to seniors. This is part of a school system initiative to make Hall the most Constitutionally literate community in the nation.
The initiative includes a free short online course on the Constitution, including video content and quizzes.
Plans at individual schools include ceremonies, breakfasts and activities.
South Hall Middle School
All social studies students will take the online Constitution course and be able to sign a petition supporting the Constitution. Lessons taught at the school this week have also included the election process and defending rights guaranteed in the Constitution.
Some classes are creating thank-you cards and letters for school staff members or family who have served in the military.
The school’s morning news will include a presentation recognizing Veterans Day.
Acadamies of Discovery
World Language and DaVinci academies will celebrate veterans with a Breakfast for Heroes, including guest speaker Vietnam War veteran Harvey Gaines Jr. and music by World Language classes. Students can bring a veteran guest.
A veterans lunch will be held in the media center for Chestatee Academy and Chestatee High School veterans.
Chicopee Woods Elementary School
Fifth-graders will hear a speaker. There will be a presentation and pep rally.
C.W. Davis Middle School
A Veterans Day ceremony is planned at 9:30 a.m. including a former Davis student as guest speaker and patriotic music from the eighth-grade band. The ceremony can be viewed live.
East Hall Middle School

Martin Technology Academy of Math and Science
Hall County Fire Services and the Oakwood Police Department will participate in a program culminating in a Walk of Honor that usually draws about 50 veterans. A reception follows.
McEver Arts Academy

Mount Vernon Exploratory School
The school will host about 130 veteran family members of students and staff for lunch. Veterans will be greeted with a Wall of Fame, receive student message view a slideshow and hear patriotic songs from the school’s chorus.
Lula Elementary School
Fifth-graders and the school chorus will attend a program in Lula Veterans Park. Fourth-graders will have a veteran speak. Local veterans are invited to lunch.
North Hall Middle School

Sardis Enrichment School
A Veterans Day Walk of Honor and assembly will be held, including the Chestatee High School drum corps and color guard. Guest speakers include students who won a writing contest. More than 40 veterans have signed up to attend.
Sugar Hill Elementary School
A parade of honor and ceremony with a guest speaker is planned. The school’s choir will provide music. The event will be closed by a bagpiper playing “Amazing Grace.”
Tadmore Elementary School
